Polished Man : mais pourquoi ces hommes se vernissent-ils un ongle ?

Depuis plusieurs jours, des photos d’hommes avec un seul ongle vernis envahissent Instagram. Est-ce le retour de la tendance de la man-ucure ? Ont-ils secrètement envie de se vernir les ongles ? Pas vraiment. On vous explique tout.

Qu’est-ce-qui pousse les hommes à s’afficher avec un seul ongle vernis sur les réseaux sociaux ? Tout commence par la rencontre d’Elliot Costello, le fondateur de l’association Ygap, avec une enfant cambodgienne victime d’abus sexuels. C’est cette petite fille, qui avait les ongles peints de bleu, qui a inspiré à Elliot le mouvement Polished Man. Le principe : les hommes se vernissent un seul ongle pour montrer leur soutien aux victimes, et aussi pour interpeller la population. Comme il est expliqué sur le site de l’Ygap : "Cet ongle engrange une conversation. Cette conversation inspire une donation, qui elle-même amène une prise de conscience, la prévention et la protection". Les femmes aussi peuvent s'engager avec le hashtag #Ipreferpolishedman.

Déjà près de 5000 personnes se sont mobilisées sur Instagram, et des célébrités telles que Chris Hemsworh ont rejoint la cause. Vous pouvez vous aussi prendre part au mouvement, symboliquement ou en faisant un don sur le site polishedman.com.

Alrighty, so I'm wearing nail polish now. Wtf will i do next, Botox? Too late, already pump 100 units into this ugly mug a month. No, okay in all seriousness there's actually a legitimate reason as to why I'm wearing hot pink nail polish. Last week i was invited to attend the launch of the YGAP polished man campaign. This campaign challenges men to paint a fingernail to help raise awareness and funds to support the 1 in 5 children who suffer from physical and/or sexual abuse under the age of 18. Let me repeat that again, 1 IN 5 CHILDREN SUFFER FROM PHYSICAL AND/OR SEXUAL ABUSE under the age of 18! This is something that really hits close to home for me, so for the entire month of October, you will see me wearing hot pink nail polish. Seems pointless right? But by wearing nail polish i am allowing a conversation to take place between friends and strangers alike. This conversation will give me an opportunity to talk about these children who need a voice and a helping hand. We were really touched to read and share the blog written by @theunimpossibles on why it shouldn't be a privilege for a child to grow up free of harm. Catalina Miguel - an inspiration to our entire team ???? Don’t donate for me – I don’t need it. Donate for the child you could have been if you weren’t so lucky. Donate for the children you could have who deserve help if something unfortunate were to happen to them. And of course donate for the children that already exist who don’t have the same luck as us…
